Good food and reasonably priced.
The main part of this hotel dates to the 1600's. For those who like historical places this is a delightful place to stay. Our room, in the newer part, was very enjoyable - traditional British decor. Big bathroom. The breakfast room (in the old part) is decorated with beautiful antiques. The delicious breakfast was cooked to order. The Chop & Ale House was lively and fun with very good food. In the Restaurant our dining experience was one of the best we have had anywhere. My partner raved over the Angus beef. My salmon, with the delicious sauce, was the best I have eaten. The ambience in the Restaurant was breathtaking. The proprietress of the Champany Inn was a gracious and attentive hostess at our dinner. She has made an art of hospitality. Would highly recommend this Inn and its restaurants to anyone except possibly those who only like modern architecture and contemporary decor.
We went for the set Christmas meal and it was marvellous. I had the red lentil and ginger soup which was excellent followed by sirloin on the bone.The steak was flame grilled to perfection with a beatiful charcoal finish. No it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Everytime we've been here the steaks have been among the best we've ever had, I can't recommend it enough.
Always wonderful service and excellent choice. Loved our visit today and came home with a few fab Christmas treats.
Steak so good I left my wife to devote more time to enjoying their steak. A must for anyone fond of fine dining.
